  1. If you are serious about surfing, start with a longer board and work your way down from there, it will make everything way easier.

I would suggest getting a fun board or an egg shape so that it still has the stability of a longboard, but has a little more maneuverability.

Also, start someplace with small, rolling waves.

  2. If I were you, I would rent a long board first before buying one. Who will know if you will like it. I hope you will. I fell in love with it myself about 15 years ago. I would start you off with a longboard for sure. They are quite easier to ride and a smoother ride at that. I ride long myself, its most enjoyable. As for shortboards you really must know how to ride a longboard before you ride a short. Shortboards are mostly for more experienced, in the need for a rush, people. They are fun when you know how to ride 'em.

When you are ready to buy a board your best bet is to head down to Santa Cruz, California. They have the best of the best board shops down there. I would recommend freelinesurf. they make the best custom boards around. As for straight off the rack boards I would go to Shoreline surf they have some good boards over there.

The best way to learn how to surf is to have a friend that knows how teach you. You don't have to be embarrassed when you fall all the time.

There are also some good lessons around at the surf shops you go into.

  3. umm u probably should get a soft top longboard there called doles  it depends where do u live

  4. Depend on you hight and weight.  Any surf shop should be able to calculate the proper board.

  5. Depends on how tall you are. I'm 5 foot so I would take at least 6'8'' board if I was just starting. Make it a long board of some sort. A Channel Islands board is a good start. Work down in length from there and try out different boards as you progress.
