For TIVO users: how long have you had your TIVO box and have you had any problems with it?

I'm trying to decide if the lifetime subscription is worth it or not. I would like to know how long the box "lives".

  1. 2 Tivo Series 1 (Philips) Lifetime Subscription (upgrade to 500 hours each)

    1 Tivo Series 2 (Version 1) Lifetime Subscription (upgraded to 900 hours)

    Only issue was with the older Tivos. Hard drives do fail after a few years but with 3rd party support (http://www.weaknees.com/) for the hard drives and software to format them it isn't difficult at all.

    If you can follow very clear instructions that have been tried and tested for the last 9 years then you can upgrade or repair your own Tivo. There is a massive community of Tivo users and users who try new things with their Tivos.
