  1. if you are playing 8-ball the 8-ball goes in the middle and then the small balls are staggered with the big numbered  balls around the rack. [big little big little] or [solid stripes solid stripes]

  2. At the peak of the triangle, place the 1 ball, next line place two striped balls.  And then on every following lines, place stripe, solid, stripe, solid, etc.  And of course, 8 ball goes in the middle.

  3. What i do is put the 1 ball at the top, then go solid-stripe, solid-stripe along the outside of the triangle.  The 8-ball then goes in the middle.

  4. In bars, everybody seems to have their own way of racking, but the World Standardized Rules for 8-ball are pretty clear.  All you have to do to make a legal rack, is to have the 8-ball in the center and the back two corners have to be one stripe and one solid (BCA rule 4.3 for 8-ball).  That's it.  Anything else is just icing on the cake.  Many players will alternate stripes and solids or place the one ball at the front, but it's only a matter of personal preference.  Happy Holidays.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  5. Basically the Lower number balls go in the front with the Black eight ball in the middle.

  6. Try racking the whitedog way!  1 at the top.  Counter-clockwise go 9, 2, 10, 3, 11, 4, 12, 13, 5, 6, 14.  8-ball in the middle and the 7 and 15 below it.  This meets ALMOST everybody's ideas about racking;  the 1 is the head ball, the 8 is in the middle, the balls alternate solids and stripes, except for the bottom right portion, b/c you want a solid on one corner and a stripe on the other.

Two neat things about this method;  you always get the balls in the exact same position (no fumbling for 5 minutes trying to alternate solids/stripes), and the matching colors (each color of solid has a corresponding stripe with the same color) will be together.
