  2. The Alps are much harder.  Some of the climbs are no as long as the Pyrenees, but the average gradient is more.  There are also many more switch backs.

    If you are not familiar with what this means, please don't miss stage 17 and the final climb up Alpe d'Huez.

  4. the alps are generally higher and steeper than the pyrenees. this year, there is a stage in the alps that has three beyond catagory climbs. stage 17 ending at l'alpe d'huez. no stage in the pyrenees can offer a stage like that.

  5. more climbs, more HC climbs, more stages of the race. And more history in the TDF doesn't hurt
