  3. I believe the back. I believe it is similar to canoeing where the person in the back does all the steering and ther person in the front just helps with moving it along.

  5. Well, the back is traditionally the engine room, so that's probably where the power should go. But that means the person in the front seat sets the stroke rate, so you wouldn't want to put an inexperienced paddler in the front, no matter how strong the second person in the boat was.

    If the two people are equally experienced, the stronger, or the heavier, goes in the back.

    If the two people are not equally experienced, the more experienced goes in the front. This also lets the neophyte gain experience by following the lead of the front person, who will be setting a good example and using good technique.
