I don't want to become a pro just would like to try it out as a hobby. Which one could I also potentially move up in levels to become decent at?

  1. ballet.

it's hard and it hurts, but you can start at any age.

i've been doing it for three years.

  2. Dance can definitely be started or practiced at any age! Ballet is the foundation of most styles of dance, and can help you improve on your poise, grace, posture and flexibility. It's a great activity to improve your health and confidence and it can be a lot of fun too. Make sure you find adult classes at a studio that is a good fit for you.

  3. gymnassssstics .

there's waaaaay to much technique to catch up on in ballet .

  4. Definitely ballet. Ballet is a combination of graceful quality and flexibility/strength. Gymnastics is primarily flexibility and lots of strength. Gymnastics can be harder to pick up. If you aren't flexible and strong in those areas already, its hard to get into it. Try ballet. You'll enjoy it and if you get pretty strong, you can always transition into gymnastics if you're craving to try it. Its harder the other way around.

  5. Between ballet and gymnastics: ballet. They're both taxing on the body but ballet is much more accessible if you're an adult.

Ever thought about modern dance? I teach dance and alot of adults that are just starting dance find modern to be their favorite. Tap is awesome too.

  6. either one can become a beautiful art.

I personally love ballet...but that's the only dance I've ever known.

Which one sounds more interesting to you??? Go with that one.

  7. Ballet.

Gymnastics needs to be started at an early age no matter what.

  8. my girlfriend says ballet, she danced for 15 years and just retired at age 21, ballet is good exercise and promotes an overall healthy lifestyle change.

  9. Both are extremely difficult to become proficient at.  I know I am of dissenting opinion to most people on the board, but I would say gymnastics.  It offers more variety and allows you to accomplish small and big achievements.

Guess I always thought ballet was way to regimented when I did it to help my gymnastics.

  10. Definitely ballet.  I take it for a hobby and to keep in shape.  For gymnastics you have to start at an early age.  Unless you're EXTREMELY flexible and pretty much fearlessI wouldn't do gymnastics.  It's easier when you start gymnastics at an early age because you're less hesitant about things.  My best friends have taken gym since they were 2 years old and that's what they told me.  Ballet on the other hand my friend just started taking it and she's 17 years old.  I've been taking it since I was 3.  See you can start at any age :)  Good luck!

  11. Oh gee Idk I've been taking ballet for 5 or 6 years and it can be kind of difficult but then again gymnastics could be just as hard so I'm not really sure sorry =)

  12. I agree with One Wicked Girl FabalaElphie. It's probably safer to try ballet, at this point (no pun intended!). Gymnastics would probably be more dangerous if you haven't had experience growing up, but I can't say that for all cases. If your body-type is right for it, if you're in really good shape, and if you have a natural talent for gymnastics, it might be worth a try. Still, I have a feeling that the dancing would be your better bet, and not quite as physically draining (although dancing has its own challenges!).

  13. I hate to say this because im a gymnast but I'd say ballet. Dancing can be started at any age, they have adult classes for dancing. Gymnastics gets harder the later you start 20, is usually above retiring age for most gymnasts. You could try gymnastics, but if you don't know the basics, it could be very hard. With ballet you might enjoy it more because there would be more people your age participating, in gymnastics, you'd be pretty much the oldest, but its not my choice, go for what you want.
