For a desktop computer which would be faster ethernet cable or a wireless connection for the internet?

Ethernet all the way. Wireless will just slow things down for a desktop. it's good for laptop(wifi). because it's mobile but desktop isn't mobile.

Ethernet

Pros: Faster, Never loose signal.

Cons: If your router is on another room and your computer is in your room, you have to run a wire across the house or you have to drill a hole to get it through.

Wireless

Pros: If your router is in another room and your computer is in your room, you don't have to run a wire though the house or drill a hole.

Cons: Sometimes it looses signal, or if you have a big house, some routers only reach limited areas.

Ethernet will give you the most solid connection and fastest. You can get up to 1000mbps (mega bits; not to be confused with megabytes) with the new gigabit network cards and routers.

ethernet (up to 1 Gb/s) is better--especially for a desktop computer! It's possible for a desktop computer to support wireless, but you would need a wireless adapter connected to a desktop computer with its drivers installed, along with a wireless router connected to your cable/DSL modem.
