  1. Not worth the effort for a tenner.!

  2. 3 out of 10000000000000

  3. Don't waste your time. Random computer picks are as lucky as picking your lucky numbers.

  4. What lottery?

  5. if i understand your question right (probably not)

    3 numbers

    1 2 3

    options

    1 1 1

    1 1 2

    1 2 1

    1 1 3

    1 3 1

    1 2 2

    1 2 3

    1 2 3

    211

    212

    221

    222

    223

    232

    233

    231

    213

    311

    312

    321

    322

    323

    332

    333

    313

    331

    So, 1 out of 27.

  6. The chances of getting 3 numbers correct out of 6 numbers chosen and 6 balls drawn is as follows

    20 x 6/49 x 5/48 x 4/47 x43/46 x 42/45 x 41/44 and the probability is 0.0176504 which is slightly worse than one chance in 56.

However, if you bet with a bookmaker, you would choose 3 numbers only, in which case the probability would be

20 x 3/49 x 2/48 x 1/47 , giving a probability of 0.0010855, which is slightly worse than 1 chance in 921, which is why the bookies offer about 600 to 1, an appalling state of affairs for a random game.

The factor 20 arises because there are 20 combinations of 3 numbers which can be taken from the 6 numbers drawn. Noitall above has omitted this factor as well as omitting 43/46 x 42/45 x 41/44 from his calculations. This trail of figures provides for the fact that you must avoid further success from the 3 numbers remaining to be drawn after the first 3 are successful.

  7. 49 / 6 = 8.166

    48 /5 = 9.6

    47 / 4 = 11.75

    46 / 3 = 15.33

    45 / 2 = 22.5

    44 /1 = 44

To calculate odds of getting any amount of balls multiply that many numbers from top ie for 3 numbers 8.166 x 9.6 x 11.75 =191.1248 to 1

So if you gamble £1 per week, statistically you should win £10 after 191 weeks or 3.67 years, and be £181 out of pocket, this is how Camelot can guarantee to win every single week, the lottery is a tax on people who can't add up!

Edit the odds are slightly better than the above of getting only three numbers as you still have six chances of hitting one down to the fourth number drawn ie 46 / 6 as opposed to

    46 / 3

Oh I can't be bothered, here is an odds calculator!

    This is interesting

Therefore if you continue multiplying all six it becomes

    13979634.75216 to 1

    8.166 x 9.6 x 11.75 x 15.33 x 22.5 x 44

14 million to 1 that is quoted by Camelot

Thumb downer strikes again too thick to understand the question or maths involved but just about bright enough to click on the icon, well done, now just have the minerals to put a name to it!!!! ! dare yer
