How much money would be a good estimate of how much I should save?

I'm a photographer, and would like to go down there for a period of time to work on some projects. So where I stay doesn't have to be anything spectacular, just enough room for one or two.

  1. I have heard that prices have gone up because the dollar's value has gone down quite a bit worldwide.  You can save money by staying in Hostels and Casa de Huespedes.  There are numerous inexpensive hotels (charming). They are usually family operated and owned.  Usually you can eat with the family and other travelers and it is good and cheaper than the restaurants.  You can gather great information from the other travelers and your things are usually safe with the family when you go out for the day.  Check out the web sight below for great information.

  2. I was just down there Feb. 4-8th. I stayed at the Riu Palace...I wouldn't stay inland. Not safe....and I'm 6'2" old tough cowboy!
