For algebra people (a math problem)?

If a/b= 5/9 & b/c = 3/5 then a/c= ?

Answer is 1/3.

Why????? :/ Where can I find explinations to these types of problems online?

    bxc=45

    axb           (5x3)

    ----- =  ------

    bxc           (9x5)

    you cross out the b's and get a/c (you cross out the 5's and get 3/9 which is one third, or you can multiply it out and then simlify in which case it would be 15/45 which is also one third)


  2. 1/3

    since b changes from 9 to 3, you can tell that the numbers in the first fraction are 3 times bigger than the ones in the second so to move c to the other fraction, make it 3 times bigger. Thus you have, 5/15 which equals 1/3.
