For all the people that get homeschooled: how do you get your PE?

I don't have PE.

How do you guys get your exersice because I know that I DON'T.

What can homeschooled people do? Do we just do exersice at home or do an activity outside?

My mom is too lazy to take me anywhere outside to exersice or go take a walk with me.

I did get into boxing but that didn't turn out to well, Im felt uncomfortable with all the guys watching while I box. So what do I do now? I mean my homeschool program can careless if I get my exersice or NOT.

I take online courses at K12 CAVA.

ANY suggestions?

  1. My son plays baseball, walks the dog, plays at the park (it's a 1/2-3/4 mile walk, as well), does exercise videos with me (these can be done on your own as well), and goes camping/hiking/etc. with Scouts.

  2. I walk to the library and back (4 miles)

I walk to my grandparents house and back (2 miles)

I walk to meet my friends at their school after they get out and we come back to my house (1 mile)

I walk my dog to the park and back (1 mile)

    I go on the elliptical

    I do yoga

    I stretch

Oh ya, and I am on a soccer team...

See? Plenty of things to do!

  3. I was homeschooled, and my brothers and sisters who are still young and living at home are being homeschooled. I just remember playing outside or going to the YMCA and swimming. I went ice skating and roller skating a lot. I guess a lot would have to do with how old you are and what kinda stuff you have around where you live. I think it's really sad when parents don't care about exercise. So many parents focus on the book work and just don't realize how important exercise is for a healthy life. Maybe you could talk to your mom and let her know how important this is to you and maybe this will get your mom motivated to get some exercise too.

  4. We live on a pastoral property so there's no shortage of physical exertion round here, lol.

We have cattle, sheep and horses at home so I (and my siblings) ride, drag bales of straw and 50 kilo bags of cake and nuts around, hammer in fence posts, dig holes and trenches, muck out the sheds and generally chase the livestock around the place. We also have to help Dad with dagging etc.

Also we have to cart water up onto the roof everytime we want a shower etc.

Plus I swim and do cross country and various outward bound type activities with Venturers.

I don't understand why you need your mum to go with you before you can get out and do anything though. You are obviously not a little kid so why does it matter that your mum should join in with you/take you somewhere just so you can do something physical - you make it sound apparently so important that it is apparently stopping you from getting out on your own and doing something (or is the 'mum won't go with me' and 'mum won't take me anywhere' covering up something else?).

If you do want to do an actual programme of PE at home, the ADF (Aussie Defence Force) has an entire exercise programme - starting out at different levels depending on how fit you are - on its website that you can do on your own if you want. Supposedly their programme can transform you from couch potato to fighting fit in 12 weeks.

  5. As the years pass comes responsibility, and then every child helps either to make or mar the home's blessedness and the home's joy. Be a joy to your parents. Solve this problem yourself in a joyful way. AND then invite your mother to come along with you.

Just getting outside for fresh air is good health. Go on a nature walk in your neighborhood, or back yard. Journal what you discover and share with your mom. If you mom has placed you into a home school program she wants what is best for you. As a daughter you have responsibilities to be a good daughter to your mother and father and respect them.

There is probably a weekly Homeschool park day where you can go out and meet other homeschooling families. Your mom would probably love to chat too with other moms. I know I do. You can bring your bike, or roller blades. along with your magnifying glass and do a nature study and nature notebooking.

You should check at every chuch, they usually have a sports program of basket ball, a gym with exercise equipment, a baseball team, a track team, or a soccer team and anyone can join no matter what your church background is.  Also usually the local facilities of Ice Skatting, or Roller skatting, or bowling usually have a home school day just for home schoolers, and your mom again can chat with the other moms.

A good book does worlds of wonder as a good substitute for friends. Revisit a classic that you have recently finished and re read those words, they will be like an old friend to you.

  6. Walk, jog, ride bike or skateboard, or go to the park and play basketball.  Take a karate class.

Here's some info on homeschooling and sports:

  7. My son goes to HS bowling, HS ice skating, HS swimming, and participates in our park district's running team for indoor & outdoor track and cross country.  He also rides his bike, roller blades, sleds, etc., with the neighborhood kids when they get off the bus.  My son also has carpet skates for activity while in the house. :-)

Aren't you supposed to have a certain amount of PE each week to comply with CAVA's rules?  What does your mom do, just enter some time in your OLS for that?  I would talk to your teacher and let them know you're not really getting this.  They can speak to your mom for you.  Even if she gets in trouble, it's in your best interest.

  8. Well, I used to take a lot of sports lessons or participate in team sports.  I think you should really get into something like that if you don't really have any friends...because everyone needs friends!!  Seriously!  Even if boxing didn't work out, there are plenty of other things you could try.  You should look into all-girls sports if guys make you uncomfortable.  (I played on an all-girls basketball team at a youth center during junior high).

During high school, my PE consisted of stretching, jogging around a couple blocks, spending a half hour DANCING in my room to whatever was on the radio (which was really fun) and playing DDR (Dance Dance Revolution... if you have a video game system, you should look into buying it!)

  9. I'm homeschooled, after I take my online course I'm free to do whatever I want, then I go outside and play football with some friends in my neighboorhood, run around, ride my bike, skateboard and generally any other activities with my friends.

  10. Your problem seems to be your mom and not the PE or the homeschooling.

A mom shoudln't be homeschooling if she is not involved in her son/daughter's studies.

If your mom "does not care" as you said, take her to the doctor. She may be depressed. It is really bad that a mom "does not care" for the health and futire of her child.

About the PE, there are many ways: you can choose an exercise documentary or program from the TV or from your local library and try to do it at home. You can also take swimming classes, tennis classes or just go for a walk or do jogging. Walk the dog (if you have one) or offer to walk the dog to a neighbour, relative or friend.

About friends: being homeschooled does not have to be the same as "loner" or "alone" or "all day at home". You should go outside everyday because it is bad for your health to be always inside your house.

Check if there are programs at your community or local library that you can do for free or for a few bucks, like field trips, a club, voluneer or workshops on anything. You'll meet people there and maybe some good friends too.

Talk to your mom about how you are feeling and that she also needs help. Obviously the homeschooling is not working if she is not involved.

    Good luck and take care

  11. i have been home schooling forever and i know how you feel its hard to stay in shape but at one point you have to star i joined the y soccer team near my house it helps with friends and work out but you cant because of you mom so wht you get a bike and ride around its a good calming way to relax and get you pe in all at once so like good luck

  12. We have a treadmill, rebounder, and weight machine.  We have the Fitness channel on TV and they have several  exercise and aerobic sessions.  We have a park adjacent to the library.  We have 6 dogs that need constant attention. .   We have community sports and gym.

We don't get enough exercise but it is not because we do not have opportunity.

  13. Great question.

Being home schooled is sometimes really hard in that sense. I'm home schooled too :). What i do to keep in shape is to take up different sports every year or so. Last year I did skating and basketball, the year before I did tennis and basketball, but it varies.

What you should do is join a club and just enjoy your sport. If you can't join a club than look for a sport that doesn't require too much coaching. You could try going out bike riding or if you're into a more "exiting sport" go for bmx!

Look for a sport which you think is interesting, not just one that will keep you in shape. When you've found it practice it by yourself, be disciplined, train every day. Be creative and don't restrict yourself, go as far as you wish to go with the sport. Usually we are the ones who limit ourselves.

If all else fails: get up early at the same time every day, go for  a jog (from 20 min to 45 min, depending on what you like), get home and stretch, do few sit-ups, press-ups and stretch again. It will make your whole day much better. Well it really helps me.

    Good luck :)
