I know some of you may need them if you have children and so forth, but do any of you just have them because you like the way they look? Or the way they feel? I'm just wondering, because I just bought an SUV, and everyone is shocked that I would do this with the economy the way it is. I do not NEED an SUV, I just always loved the look of them. I do not have any children, and do not need to haul extra passengers other than myself or my husband.....how can I be so shallow in an economy like this!!!! Please give me your opinions and experiences with this subject, I am so torn on this I am ready to sell the vehicle.....thank you!

  1. We have a 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD (diesel).  We're getting 28-29 mpg (mostly commuting 40 miles each way, about 50 minutes).

We got the Jeep to be able to explore the back roads (trails) of Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Colorado).  If that was not a desire for use, we would probably have a VW Jetta TDI wagon.  Similar interior, and better fuel economy.

  2. You got your SUV for the same reason I went to war for this country. Freedom of choice! No matter what the econamy is like for the next guy. Each persons econamy is what counts if yours says you can have an SUV and you wanted it you did the right thing. Truth be told the real bad bad econamy is all news media hype and lies. Wall street is the cause of the gas prices and any American should know that. I have a Hime Charger because I wanted it. And yes I can afford the gas to drive it like I stole it.

  3. We have one based on need.  For one, our summer cabin is only accessible with a 4WD vehicle.  Also comes in handy when the inclement weather comes around too.  If it weren't for these reasons, then the second vehicle in our household  would probably be a sedan or something of the like.

Unfortunately, you've made the purchase.  You will realize that backing out of it is nearly impossible now because SUV's are difficult to sell.  Just swallow the decision and live with it ... as already pointed out, you'll lose a lot of money trying to undo the mistake.

  4. 1. if you want it, and you can afford it, to h**l with what other people think. keep it, drive it, and enjoy it

    2. i use mine for serious off-roading. i don't use it on the road. i even trailer it to the trail (ride quality, mostly. and it gives me a way to get it home if i break it too badly)
