  1. Yep - Lifting

A great innovation to the modern game. We can thank RSA. The South Africans actually lifted before the rules were changed.  It proved so effective that they pushed for a rule change.

It is often a fine line between lifting and holding the man in the air up. You can't actually legally hold the jumper up but many guys do - The refs never call it !

  2. its called lifting

i started playing before they allowed lifting.  And because i am 6'0 and was a school record holder in high jump, i always won line outs all by myself because we had to jump for the ball... thats why call the people that they lift "jumpers".

i still rock the lineouts, but i am a lifter now... its just different.

  3. lifting

  4. I am not a pro but its called.

    "Contesting the line out".

    Or

    "Jumping"

They just lift the guy to get better height thats all.

  5. Lifting. The players that do them are called lifters, usually prop forwards and the jumpers are usually 2nd rowers.

  6. Its "lifting" if you are talking about under 16 rugby teams or younger then lifting is not aloud (in Ireland until under 18 in clubs, you are aloud do it in schools rugby)  but assisting at under age level is considered a penalty to the opposisition.

Used to be the same deal at international level before they brought in the lifting rule
