What exactly does it mean when someone says their car is "cammed"

The cylinder's valves in your engine admit the air / fuel mix and then discharge the exhaust gases. These valves are are pushed open by lobes (cams) on a rotating shaft. That shaft is called the camshaft. Engine power can be increased at the expense of economy, emissions, and engine smoothness by altering the shape of the cam lobes. A car with an altered cam for increased performance is called "cammed".
