I have been doing fertility shots, to no avail. I am considering IVF next and my husband and I plan to make an appointment with the doctor to discuss it. Can anyone tell me how it is done, how much it usually costs, did your doc let you make payments or have to pay all at once and how did IVF treatments turn out for you? Any information from those who have experienced this would be helpful! Thanks!

  1. We had discuss about IVF with our fertility specialist as we been ttc for 4yrs. But he suggest us to do SO-IUI first as we are only 28yrs old. IVF was not recommended to couples below 30yrs. If done in Singapore, it will cost abt SGD10,000 and you are allow to deduct about SGD6,000 from medisave.

  2. It has cost me between $3000 - $5000  australian dollars per cycle Medicare (Aust Govt) does contribute for IVF treatment making it a little more affordable.  Without Govt assitance it would cost about $7000 - $10000.00

You need to take medications (nasal spray, injections, pessaries) to stimulate your ovaries, you then have day surgery to remove your eggs, they are fertilised and replaced a few days later.

    Good luck.

I would recommend you try a few web sites like IVF world to give you more info.

  3. IVF is a time-consuming process. In a nutshell, you will give yourself shots in the belly and have daily (or every other day) ultrasounds to monitor your egg/follicle growth. Once you have reached follicle maturity, you will give yourself an HCG shot which triggers release of the egg and within 1 to 2 days afterward you will go in for retrieval. Egg retreival occurs while you are under local sedation. At this time your husband will provide the sperm. The lab will combine the sperm and eggs. Approximatly 3 to 5 days later, you will go back in for the transfer. You will be told the condition of your embryoes and your doctor's suggestion of how many to transfer. Transfer is done while you are awake (it isn't painful) with an ultrasound machine. Afterwards you will take progesterone shots (in the rearend, given by your husand) until you have your pregnancy test - 2 weeks later.

As for cost, each couple and each treatment is different. So only your doctor can give you an exact number. I paid $10,500 for mine.

My doctor didn't let me make payments but they recommended a lending institution. We went through Capital One HealthCare which gave the doctor the money and we paid Capial One just like a loan. The rates were very reasonable.

IVF worked for us the first time. I now have a beautiful 13 month old son who was worth every penny and every shot!!

    GOOD LUCK!!!

  4. Back in the early 90's it cost about $20,000.  I think the procedure has improved a lot since.
