For anyone who has read and remembers "Jane Eyre"?

Would you consider Burns to be a "foil" to Jane? ("Foil" - A character who is meant to represent characteristics, values, ideas, etc. which are directly and diametrically opposed to those of another character, usually the protagonist.)

Yes, I would think so.  Helen is rather easy going about religion for those times, and relaxed about it all.  In some ways she is the opposite of Jane, and I think she is less worldly than Jane.

It is more than half a lifetime since I read Jane Eyre, and I really cannot remember specific details of the novel other than very generally.  However, these sites should help you with your work with it.

yes, because whereas he is mysterious and a dark figure, jane is a more honest and righteous character.
