For anyone who is a teacher ( living in ontario canada) ?

Question

i have some quick questions i hope you wouldnt mind answering

i want to become a teacher and i would like to teach elementary school kids. right now im in college taking early childhood education. ( i know this can only allow me to teach in a daycare or preschool) so im planning on going to university after

my questions are

a. how many years were spent in university ( what degree did you get)

b. how many degrees do you need to become a elementary teacher

c. after university do you have to go to teachers college? how many years was that?

Answer 1

a) 4 years to get a Bachelor of Education

b) You need your Bachelor of Education to be any type of teacher, however if you already had a Bachelor's degree (in science or arts etc) you can take your B. Ed as an after degree and that is a 2 year upgrade from what you would already have.

c) No you don't

ps- check with the college and see if any of the courses you are taking transfer over to the university you want to attend.  If they do, then you won't have to take them over again. Hope this helps.  However if I were you I would skip the ECE and go right for the big kahuna!
