OK, so I'm looking for someone with experience with braces that can answer this for me. Does it hurt to get braces taken off? What is the procedure, and how long does it take? I've ot about another 6 months to go with mine and I've been wondering what it's like to get braces off. Does it feel bad or anything afterwards? Please answer!!

  1. No, it doesn't hurt.  What will happen is they will take off the brackets and then sand off the chemical glue.  While they are sanding, you might bleed and feel a sensation that resembles biting into cold ice cream, but it'll be fine.  Your teeth will then feel smooth and you will have a great smile, but that smile will be shrouded by retainers that you will have to wear for a while.

  2. I don't know, I was born with perfectly straight teeth.

  3. no it doenst hurt its pretty fast. they like take them off all in one piece. then they take this sander type thing and grind off all the cement stuff. your teeth are pretty sensitve for a little while. but its awsome when you have them off. retainers suck thoughh rly annoying :/.

  4. I'll let you know soon because i'm getting mine off at 8am this morning!

  5. It takes a while to get them off, or at least for me it did, and the only bad part (and its not ever that bad) is when they have to remove the remaining glue on your teeth by polishing/sanding it off. Afterwards your teeth just feel slimy for a while

  6. You'll definally be in that dentist chair for a long time. Take some ibuprofen before you go in, and bring your ipod so you can listen to music while their working on your teeth because you probably don't want to hear all the drilling. It's not painful but it is uncomfortable, they pop your braces off with pliers basically, that dosen't take very long but then they drill the cement off and that takes the majority of the time. After that they fit you for your retainer and clean your teeth up.

I'm pretty sure thats the order, it was 2 years ago for me.

  7. It does not hurt. Mine got snapped off, and I couldn't feel it. The only thing I didn't like was they use that electric brush thing dentists have to get the glue off and I have sensitive teeth so that jarred my teeth a bit!!

Afterwoods, I couldn't stop running my tongue over my teeth, they just felt so SMOOTH its unbelievable!!
