okay i understand that the economy sucks anyway. but I need help with selling the products we sell(shoes for that matter actually) and lately ive been getting really frustrated because its been so hard to make a d**n sale!

I always hear the same excuse "I'm just looking" and most of the time I know theyre full of c**p. so my question is how can I get past the "im just looking" c**p from people cause i cant even get people to let them talk to me. and then it makes me look bad because it seems like i dont wanna approach them when i already have.

any help would be gladly appreciated

  1. I always hate it when salespeople bombard me as soon as I enter a store.  I prefer the approach of the person saying "hi I'm Eric let me know if there's anything you need help with", and then kind of hand around in the area straightening product or whatever so your nearby when they're ready.

  2. How about asking them what they are looking for?  If they are looking at shoes, then there are all types of shoes: sneakers, casual, loafers, sandals, etc.  Point the customer in the right direction, mention any sale items or promotions that the store is offering, tell them your name and to ask for you if they have any questions or need a size.  Walk away, but keep an eye on them (they could be trying to steal; thieves don't like help).  Come back in a few moments and see if they are finding everything okay.  You don't have to stalk them, but definitely don't let them walk idly through the store.  If they leave, well, you still provided them with good customer service and maybe prevented a loss.  But I bet if you continue to give good customer service, you WILL sell shoes.

I personally do not buy at stores that don't greet me and let me know where things are.
