  1. I've been a teller, banker and manager.  Daily duty- 1st customer service, answering questions, looking up info, dealing with irritated and pissed off customers.  How would you deal with a customer who has overdrawn their account all over town and the bank has charge them couple hundred dollar in overdrafts?  Not to scare you but that is a daily duty.  2nd duty- sales- big push in most banks now.  You have to reference customers to your bankers.  Means you have to push bank produces like checking accts, credit card, loans.  You are the first line of sales b/c you see the most customers.  Most banks now depend pay on how well you can sell.  Example pay 7-8 dollars an hour but you will get bonas of $500+ per month depending on how many referral you have.  Some banks pay 10-11 dollars per hours but have set sales goal and if you don't meet them monthly after a certain period of time they will fire you. Other duties basis teller duties like deposits, withdraws, counting money, and make sure you balance at the end of day.  Job can be boring at time and crazy at times 1st, 15th, and 30s of the month.  People get paid and they want to cash their checks.  Little advise stay away from in-store branches like inside grocery store.  The store are crazy they might open earlier then normal bank and close much later like 7-8pm weekends.  Cool thing there are lots of cute girls that come in and meet a lot of people sometimes good and bad... Opportunities bankers make 30-50+ and Managers make 40-70+ but you have to like sales.  but there are lots of other positions in the back off or corporate.  Hope this helps.

  2. Yes working as a teller is a great job, especially if you are new to the workforce. You should really go for it. You get great work hours (banking hours are the best), you get every single holiday off with pay, great benefits, great work environment, great opportunity for advancement, and one added bonus that I really liked (I worked this job in college) is the cute girls that came into the branch I worked at all the time. They loved the fact that I worked in a bank.
