For auto technicians: What are your benefits like?

I have my certificate in auto tech and I haven't found a job yet because I can't afford the health insurance. $17/ hour with a $400 / month premium health insurance. I'd rather keep my state job making 10/ hour with a $30/ month premium.

If you healthy you should look into an individual policy with a high deductible the premium would be much lower than $400 per month. With a $7 an hour raise that would bring you and extra $1,120 per month which you could save a portion of to pay your deductible.

I would also consider a large dealership they have better benefit plans than smaller shops.

I suggest using yellowpages.com to search for health insurance brokers in your area. A good broker can give you quotes from several companies.
