For car insurance purposes, is it possible to have dual residence in separate states?

we live in NY and my fiancee has her license in ny... can she keep her license in ny even though she's on my NY car policy? she also has a family residence in ny.

  1. In the US, you can't have dual residency.  You can only have one state of residence - the state you have your driver's license, and your voting registration.

    But you do realize, NY and NY are the same state?

It depends on what state your insurance policy is underwritten in and the address on the policy.  If you live in NJ, legally she should have a NY license.  The insurance company can cancel the policy if she doesn't....why?  Because they can't run a DMV on her and she's not a licensed driver in the state of NJ.  FYI......her residency is based upon where she lives, not where her family owns property.
