  1. I've recently graduated, but while enrolled, I worked. If you're just starting college, then I don't recommend working that much to start off--maybe 15 hours each week. As time progresses, you can increase it to 20-25 hours. I really don't recommend working any more hours than that unless it's an absolute must and you're not taking a full load. I always took anywhere from 12-18 hours while enrolled. Taking 12 or 15 hours of courses to start off and working 15 hours was a good balance for me.

When I took 18 hours this past Spring and worked about 23 hours each week, things got a little hectic at times--basically b/c I was majoring in Management and my classes required a lot of group work. That's something you need to consider when deciding. Be sure you leave enough time for homework and studying and also enough free time during the day and/or early night to work on class projects. When you're scheduling your classes and planning your work schedule, you'll always feel like it's enough time, but soon you might feel overwhelmed and stressed if you're not careful. I had that problem.

If possible, work on campus in a location that allows you to work on your homework or study for tests while you're there (monitor a computer lab, help desk at a library or residence hall, etc.) This is what helped me during my first 2 semesters.

  2. I worked aprox. 35-40 hours a week and the max hours I took was 12, 4 classes.

  3. 13 hours a week/12 units a quarter (3 classes a qrtr)/chemical engineering
