As an employer or for a recruitment agency, is it better to just submit the old typical resume even though you are really selling creativity? is it a good idea to send a portfolio? I am getting mixed ideas and don't know the wise thing to do (note Im trying to get a job as a ui expert in Sydney)

  1. If there is any other requirement other than using a printed or hand made portfolio, you must adhere. And with that off course your CV or resume.

Digital portfolios can be viewed on line in a website format for instance. Pdf will work great though, try to use Corel when building your pdf (if you know the software) otherwise MS word or so. Also make sure the CD you provide it on is professionally presented (printed labels etc)

But if it is not a requirement you will be wasting your time.

Hope you get the job, good luck!

  2. It's ALWAYS best to send a 'standard resume' and a 'portfolio' of one's 'creative' work ... either the 'hard copy' (usually slides although that is changing) or a 'website' ... and believe it or not, when a 'writer' (who is also 'creative) sends in a resume, the writer can't 'use good creative writing' on the resume, but should also send a 'portfolio' ... this tells the HR people that you can 'communicate normally and formally' and still 'be creative' in the job you want.
