For dinner with friend n others lecture at hotel?

Is the dinner @ the hotel or after the lecture @ another loc? Resort hotel or a Holiday Inn type? An evening of education or professional courtesy?  

If this is a sophisticated evening & you want to fit in or stand out, black & white combonation in a males opinion w / heels  ( w / a little leg & cleevage ) & ruby or emerald jewelry should do you good.

It depends on the occasion.  If it is the banquet for an organization or at the end of the convention, I'd wear a dress or business clothes.  Some people will wear party dresses.

If it is a lecture just being held at the hotel for the space, you can go casual but neat.
