Do you think that native Arizonans have a natural Spanish accent? I have been born and raised in Phoenix and I have noticed that sometimes I have a similar accent to a Mexican. It's not a bad thing just curious if anyone else has ever noticed!!!

  1. Phoenix isn't right on the border. Maybe you have a strong influence or you think you have an accent.

For instance, I think I have an American accent, but people still say, "Where are from?"

I've been to Arizona, and most people I saw were Caucasian or Navajo. I saw few Mexicans there.

Texas however, I saw more Mexicans than I have in my entire life.

Thanks for the email, but to prove you wrong:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix,_AZ...

"As of 2000, the racial makeup of the Phoenix was 71.1% White, 5.1% African American, 2.0% Native American, 2.0% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 16.4% from other races, and 3.3% from two or more races. "

    50% Mexican? I don't think so.

I thought Wikipedia is an unreliable source.  Actually, hispanic population is under 50%, and you asked solely about Hispanics. Almost 80% of the population in Phoenix alone is NONHISPANIC.

  2. Yes, absolutely. It's a Mexican-American accent. They have it in LA too. You will find it especially common around blue-collar workers.

  3. well having been born and raised in Arizona I can say for a fact that we do have a mexican/american accent here.  I disagree with what was said in a previous answer about not seeing any mexicans in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Pretty much everywhere you go there are a ton of them around. I mean if there are so little Mexicans in this state why does Sheriff Joe make such a big fuss about rounding up illegals. He sets up check points all over the valley, deporting hundreds (if not thousands) each month. You should seriously rethink your answer. Oh and by the way I lived in Texas for a while a few years back and the town that we lived in was heavily populated by blue collar white folks, not a mexican in sight. So there goes that theory.

  4. only with those of Latino decent (or in a few cases whites that lived/hung out a lot with them)
