I see so many questions on here asking about the idol shows, (American Idol and Australian Idol mostly) and thought that a few of you would need a few tips and TRUTHS about how the show and audition process work.
First off, I'm going to start out with the audition process. I want you to know that you must go through 2 auditions before you can even get to the judges panel. Alot of the judges at the first 2 auditions will turn you down if they believe that you are not emotionally mature enough. Be prepared with some things your birth certificate and a photo I.D. They might also ask for your drivers liscence so be prepared. Also have a song that you know very well prepared. As well as that, take a sleeping bag and a pillow, because you could be waiting in the lines FOR DAYS. Bring some money, food, friends and a mobile phone. Think about this, if you don't have confidence in yourself, do you want to be waiting for 2 days in the rain just to be turned down? That is a big problem with the aiditions, so many people come in delusional or not sure of themselves and are turned down anyway. It is also a good idea to bring your guitar, alot of the people who get through can play their own instruments. There is a guitar in the audition room, but you want to keep practicing.
In the audition room! Now is your chance to impress the judges. Make sure you know the song! get a second opinion of your singing and BE SURE OF YOURSELF. Also, be aware that before you go into the audition you must sign a contract stating that the IDOL SHOW can depict you in anyway you want. This means that they can follow you artound with a camera, do some editting techniques and make you look like a physco if they want to. Plus, DO NOT go on, just so you can be on T.V. The majority of auditions ARE NOT TELEVISED so your wasting your time if thats the only reason you wish to go on and BE PREPARED to sit there for hours doing nothing..
Ok, now your past the audition and have made it to Hollywood, Sydney etc.. Top 100 time! This is probably the worst part of being on the idol show. You must have some idea of what songs you are going to perform and if you are an attention hog and can't work with other people, turn away now. You HAVE to do the group song and you will be around these people for every second of the day for the next week or so. There comes the worst part, you must come prepared to be sitting around until 3 oclock in the morning. Its cramped and its cold, but you just have to wait your turn. They do it in numerical order (you audition number is what gets your place in line) so you could be sitting there for hours and hours. you also must look after your voice. This is another crucial part, where you msut accept that not everyone's in televised, they only televise the one that they plan on putting through to the top 30 usually. You will be stuck, sitting around with some people that you don't like, listening to them warbling and trying to imitate other singers. There is ALOT of bitching and insecurities back stage. Especially from the girls there, they will do nothing but ***** about the girls they feel infereor to and they don't stop. You must also be prepared to share a room and some of them play some nasty pranks. remember they only show the glamourous stuff on T.V, so you don't see all the bad stuff that happens back stage. You better hope that you don't get sick of hearing the same songs over and over, this year it was bleeding love by Leona Lewis and some people got SICK of it.
If you make it past there then be determined. How many idol winners actually make something of themselves. Usually they don't and if you don't want to be known for the rest of your life as the girl who went on idol then don't go on.
I hope this helped, so all the girls who keep posting questions about idol and etc. should read this...
I made it through to the top 100 in 2006 (Australian Idol). Yes my name is Amber and none of you saw me, my audition wasn't televised and neither was my top 100 experience. As I said, they only televise the REALLY BAD ONES or the people they plan to put through further in the competition. It's pretty much a waste of time. Do it the hard way, get an agent and some lessons.
