For high school teachers: Do most high school's need/hire ESL teachers, or English teachers?

I ask this because, I would like to be either a English teacher ;where I teach composition English, or ESL teacher. Either one would be great.

English teacher is a major in college, so take that.  ESL teacher is a job option for somebody with an English teacher degree.  Would depend on the high school which they need in any particular year.

ESL teachers are sought but are really hard to find, especially in rural areas of the country.

The need depends upon the geographic area. You can prepare simultaneously for both./
