For how time can a permenant resident of US can go out of the country

i am a student, i just recently moved to US but i want to do my education in india. i have the green card and social security too. i know that i can only go for a year to india, but is there any other option by which you can at least go for four or two years because its very expensive coming here after every year per year if its at least two or four years please let me know the website? or mail me at vajidriyaz@gmail.com

  2. With a re-entry permit (which you should apply for before you leave the US), you can stay outside of the US for up to 2 years, but then you can't easily leave again for another 2 years and hope to be allowed back in. If you have a green card you're expected to live in the US.
