  2. Okay, from the way you're asking I know that you're uncertain about driving manual transmission. For gear 1, you may still leave your left foot on the clutch pedal, but tell yourself in less than 10 seconds, you have to engage clutch for second gear (that means you have to accelerate to almost 2000rpm), then you have to put you foot on the footrest (also called dead pedal in American Motorcars).
