  1. Actually, we called it "Red" China for many, many years in order to distinguish it from the Republic of China (Taiwan).  We didn't start with the People's Republic of China (PRC) until Nixon went over there to kiss Mao's @ss in the early 70s.

It is still considered a communist country, and so it's OK to call it Communist China.  The Island of Taiwan and some surrounding islands still call themselves the Republic of China.

  2. The difference between Communism and Fascism lies in the degree to which a dictatorial state marches in lock step with capitalism. Many, if not most, of the corporations that Hitler relied upon to supply his war machine are still in business today.

Cuba has steadfastly remained loyal to its socialistic ideals and although it cruelly suppresses opposition it suppresses corruption too.

We never referred to the "Communist U.S.S.R." I believe that we apply that term to China to distinguish it from Taiwan, which has always been capital-friendly. Perhaps it IS time to drop the "Communist" bit and wait until it is clearly time to start using the "Fascist" label.

  3. As The Golden Buffalo said, communism is an economic system that has gotten a derogatory connotation. In theory you could have a communist system that would provide the people with freedoms and free elections. Most people equate communism and totalitarianism. Totalitarian governments are the problem. As we have seen, China has pretty much embraced capitalism, but the government still has an iron grip on people's rights and freedoms. It's all about power and control. The more you control, the more power you have.

  4. Mao died in the 1970's, political and economic reforms followed. In many ways they're still communist and the people believe communist ideals but thier is investment and private enterprise in many areas.

Also communist was used as a deragatory word for so long that most americans don't even know what it means. Thus continued slander of some percieved enemy has no place in the enlightened world.

  5. Because China is not longer a true Communist country. They have a hybrid political system.

Hint: Communists do not have any form of Capitalism. China does.

  6. It is not misleading.  It is still a Communist State.  One could say Communist Cuba and be correct as well as saying Communist China.

The Politically Correct crowd is trying to make us think that the ChiComs are nice guys, the same way they do not want us to use the words "Illegal Aliens".....they are"undocumentated workers"
