How long did it take before you got your period back? I exclusively breastfed for the first 5 months. The last 6 weeks I have weaned him to formula during the day (usually 7am-5pm) and breastfeeding at night and early morning. I'm wondering when I'm going to get my period. I know its different for everyone, but when did you all get yours back?

Also, I'm on the mini-pill..not sure if that matters...

  1. The period issue varies.

If you're cutting down on nursing though, you need to switch birth controls, especially if you do get your period back.

**Have you considered the Mirena IUD?  If the mini-pill didnt harm your milk supply, Mirena wont either.  Its the most effective bc on the market.  The pregnancy rate is even lower than getting your tubes tied.  It also has the lowest risk of side effects.  It lasts for 5 years, and you can get a new one as soon as it runs out.  Or, you can get it removed at any time and your fertility will return to normal right away, unlike other bc methods.  Of course, you'd have to talk to your doctor about it.  Dont want to use it if you have multiple sexual partners, or are high risk for certain things, etc.  But its a great option for breastfeeding moms, or any woman who has one or more children.  If not, then you'd want to use condoms, spermicide, charting, something besides just the mini-pill.  You should be using a back-up method anyway, because the mini-pill is far less effective than the normal pill.
