I breastfeed and have done a bit of expressing here and there to freeze but am now doing it to build my supply back up.

If I were to exclusivley pump every 2 hrs (I have been getting 2-4 ozs from both b***s today every 2 hrs) could that end up being 6 ozs every 2 hrs? I want to nurse my baby girl as I love that but also need to start freezing loads for when I return to work. I would like to feed her every 4-6 hrs but pump inbetween....is that realistic?

Also, how long can you just express for without your supply drying up?

  1. I was emptying my breast every two hours, I was going for as much milk as possible because I wanted to stockpile. By three months I was getting 9 oz every two hours. So, yeah.. it's possible.

  2. If you continue to pump you will continue to produce so you will not dry up.. You wont need to pump 6oz every 2hrs.. My son is 4 months and he eats 4 oz every 3-4 hours.. I pump twice work (and get 4oz each time) and then once at home and one day of pumping is equal to the same amout he eats  while at daycare.. But if you keep pumping every two hrs your body will keep making more milk..

  3. As long as your demanding, it will keep coming. The more often you pump, the more you'll eventually get. It does take a little time. And as long as you can stick to it, you can pretty much pump as long as you want. I had to pump for the first two months after my daughter was born because she was born early and was in the hospital. But its somethin you have to stick with. Good luck!!

  4. yes its  fine the more u pump and feed and the more often the more milk u make and expressing it does not make it dry up, it builds the supply as long as ur feeding/pumping u will have milk
