For my wedding...Any creative ideas on how to disguise a big wooden cross?

Here is where I am getting married: http://www.flickr.com/photos/81337094@N00/2575262343/in/photostream/

We DO NOT want a religious ceremony and I don't want the cross in our wedding pictures. How can I disguise it without it looking like we are trying to hide a cross? Any suggestions are welcome (besides cutting it down!). Thanks!

  1. Why would you select a wedding location with a giant cross if you don't want religious themes?

Move your location... or tell them it is a cell phone tower

  2. why not take the picture further away from the

cross.Take a few steps either left or right of the

    cross.

  3. A huge poster of some sort? ha I am really trying, but that's a tough one.

  4. What about a tall garden arch? You could decorate it with tulle, flowers, ribbons ~ in fact, you can wrap tulle around the bars on the front of the arch (the part facing you & your guests) Then hang a strip of tulle from the back of the arch (imagine a curtain) Add a few flowers & other decorations ~ it certainly won't hide the cross completely. But it should distract from it so it isn't the main thing everyone is looking at.

Your ceremony site is beautiful, by the way :)

EDIT: Just wanted to caution you against decorating the actual cross as a means of disguising it. If you have very religious guests, they may flip out! (I'm just thinking grandparents, older aunts, etc.) I'm not trying to judge  you or anything ~ in fact, my husband & I passed up on a couple of ceremony sites because they were pretty religious and we are not. But my experience is that people can get a little nutty when they find out a wedding ceremony is going to be held w/out religion. You don't want to make it worse by doing something to the cross that others may seem as a desecration.

  5. Do piping and hang drapes from it - similar to something like this:

It's pretty inexpensive and it will look beautiful if done right :)

  6. Uhhhmmmm....why would you select a location that is obviously designated as a spiritual spot if you don't want a religious ceremony? It is very rude to cover up a religious symbol and, as this location is on the top of a hill, there would be many other spots for a ceremony. Maybe you need to try a little harder for a location and leave the more traditional, spiritual sites for the majority of people who appreciate its beauty and symbolism. EDIT: Hey, stop picking on ME. Others have also pointed out the incorrectness of hiding a cross. Go ahead and consider your Islamic relatives but, please, use a little common sense, consider Christians as well, and take your photos at another place. Why do you think it is bad to offend Islamic friends and not Christian friends? Seems to be kind of bigoted remark? My comments were just to point out that this is a large area and it would be wrong to offend people of any faith who may attend.

  7. you could get one of those room dividers to place in front of the cross. maybe get some tall and full fake trees.

  8. you could get a few meters of material, attach at the top of the cros then pull down and out at the sides, making a nice triangle backdrop?

  9. That's going to be hard to disguise as far as hiding the shape...you could try hanging fabric from the horizontal piece down to the bottom, and then wrapping vines/flowers around the top (vertical) part. Not sure how great it would look, but it would no longer look like a cross.
