Question:

For navy personnel.... is gunners mate a good job in the navy?!?!?!?

well i just enlisted and i qualified in the asvab fo this job.. there were more but i chose this one in the mean time(gunners mate).. i have till next year till they ship me off. but i was going for the seals, but i didnt score high enough on the asvab and missed by a few points...

so... can anyone tell me if they experienced this job.. what do they do exactly?? and is it fun?

  1. They work with weapons. 50 cals M16 9m they run the ammo department etc.  

    Depends how long do you want to stay in the navy.  I'm a EN which is a diesel engine mechanice I work on A/C hyrdaulics systems, anything mechanical  when I get out I can make some pretty good money

    I was an officer, therefore I wasn't a gunners mate. But I can give you some observations.

    I was on an AOE, the USS Rainer, which was a supply ship. The gunners mates usually ended up working outside their rate. We had no large bore guns. The GMs often drove fork lifts, and acted as supply personnel.

    On combat ships they work more in their rate.

    If it was me, I'd be trying hard for small craft, like the old riverine boats in Viet Nam. They often work with SEALs.
