  1. 100% against it i think it is murder all the way no matter when it is performed

  2. I'm all for the woman's right to choose as long as she's choosing responsibly, but as for me, the choice is already made. As a mother of four children plus one miscarriage. I could never have an abortion. I just can't stand when women use abortion as a "birth controll"

  3. I am for .....

    Information.

As in, clinics should be required to give the "mom" all the information they can before she makes a decision.

For example - I've heard women say "I had an abortion, it's no big deal because the fetus didn't have a heartbeat or anything."  It is going to be a SAD SAD day for them when they find out their baby DID have a heartbeat.

  4. Firmly against, I believe life begins at conception.

  5. im not pro-abortion, but i am pro-choice.

  6. against

  7. personally I couldn't do it but it's a very personal decison and I think that every woman that chooses to abort feels completely justified in doing so.  So whatever decision a woman makes is the right one if it's what's in her heart and works for her and her situation.

  8. Against for the most part and here is why:

I have thought about this quite a bit over the years. The wide spread of opinions is incredible, matched only by the passion of the activists on all sides. This is an issue that few people are even able to have a civilized discussion about. Complicating it further is that there are few that hold a black-and-white view of the issue. The majority of people in the US see abortion as a giant grey area with varying degrees of abortion considered acceptable. Very few people hold the position of unlimited abortion access or no abortion under any circumstances. Below is the process I went through to come up with my position on the matter.

First, I asked myself the question at what point does a human being obtain "personhood" and as such gain all the legal and moral protections that status entitles them to? There are some who say that the point of personhood is 28 days AFTER birth, at which point you still should be allowed to abort. In fact, there is a professor of ethics at Princeton University that actively advocates this position. Others say up to the point of birth. These folks, such as Barak Obama, would hold that this type of infanticide as well as partial birth abortion is a reasonable procedure. This is the position that spurred “Born Alive” legislation that says if a woman attempts an abortion and the baby survives, that doctors cannot withhold care and let the baby die on the operating table. Or perhaps just before birth while the mother is in labor. Or 6 months of gestation or 3 months or three weeks. I wrestled with this for a long time.

Then I looked at the issue a different way. Does human life have an imputed value or an intrinsic one? If we say that it is imputed, meaning the value is derived from something else, some outside criteria, then any one of the above positions would be equally valid. We as a society would decide what criteria to select. My problem with this is what criteria do you use? On what basis is a baby at 6 weeks more valuable than a baby at 5 weeks? Is a baby that has not yet developed a heart still a baby? This hit really hard on my wife and I when we lost one of our children. Lynne had a miscarriage a few years ago. When people with strong pro-choice sentiments gave us their condolences, they referred to the fetus as a child, even though she (we named her Grace, even though we do not know for sure if she was a she or a he. It made it easier to explain to the other children what happened and easier for Lynne and I to grieve our loss) was at the same gestational point, 9 weeks, that they believed abortion was merely removing some unwanted tissue of the mother. So, the criteria used is whether or not a child is wanted? If that is so, then why? The characteristics of an object of any sort are not contingent on another person’s belief or perception.

By similar logic, if the value of human life is imputed, it can also be taken away, depending on what some person or group of persons believe that life is worth. So if you happen to be mentally retarded or black or Jewish, it would be perfectly reasonable for you to be killed off for the good of the community if the majority of them believe it. I have a friend who is paralyzed from the neck down and constantly in pain. There are some in the world who would look at her and say that she has no quality of life or that the money and effort to support her would be better used on others. They would have her die due to her handicap. But knowing her the way I do I find the notion that she is without a quality of life to be ridiculous on its face. She is a writer, a painter, and heads up an international charity. I’d call that a pretty good quality of life. So would her husband who married her years after her accident put her in the wheelchair. Thus, the imputed value logic is shown to me to be completely arbitrary. Following any of the “prior to this point it is not human but at this one on it is” positions is likewise arbitrary and is not able to answer the question of personhood.

But consider the proposition that human life has an intrinsic value. That it is valuable simply because it is human life and no other reason. No measure or quantification of the value of it, it is and that is enough. It is sort of like gold. Gold is valuable because it is gold, not because we as a society stood up one day and said, “we are going to make gold valuable”. Gold has an intrinsic value as opposed to an imputed value, such as paper currency. Paper currency is worthless in and of itself. It has value only because we say it has a certain value.

This position then would support a clear line between human life and not human life. With this position, you are a human at the point that you have a unique genetic code. In other words, at conception. Prior to that, there was no “you”. The male and female reproductive components in and of themselves are not a unique genetic code, but merely parts of the donors

  9. In most cases I am completely against. Unless pregnancy resulted from rape or incest, the women's choice was when she chose to have s*x protected or not (b/c pregnancy is a known possibility).  Rarely do rapes & incest cases result in pregnancy, but I am undecided in these situations. I am totally against abortion for unwanted pregnancies that are not related to the above situations. Adoption is a wonderful gift to those who can't have their own children.

    OB/GYN RN & mom

  10. I don't see how a mother could just let someone suck her baby from inside her, ripping the poor child from her insides. That is the ONE  place in this world that nobody should ever enter; that place is this child's safe haven, to grow and become. This is the mother and for the mother to allow her child's world and her child to be ripped from her body is not worth my breath.

    Against.

Rape or no rape, a child is a child.

  11. Against....

  12. Pro-Life. I also believe life begins at conception. It's murder.

  13. I think that if you should get one if you can't support the baby, health reasons, etc. but it SHOULD NOT be used as a form of birth control as some people do.

  14. I am so tired of this question, all it does is cause a stir and it's annoying. Unless you've lived under a rock, you know that everyone and I mean everyone feels differently about abortion. This question should be in a list of questions that should never be asked again.

  15. Firmly against. Who are we to decide whether an unborn child lives or dies? We're not God.

  16. For it. Im so sick of hearing all these people who are against it.

  17. I have such mixed feelings on abortion. Part of me believes that abortion and procration limitations should be mandatory.

Abortion in girls under 18 should be mandatory. Why?  Because they are burdening an already weakened walfare system. Their futures are grim and often enough they rely on the Government/Walfare for the REST of their lives. Then we as tax paying middle Americans get to pick up their tab! WTF? No way! Teenage pregnancy is a PANDEMIC. It is being idolized by the media. It is a sickening trend. Our childrens society is going to be in utter disarray. Moms on walfare produce children on walfare and more often then not those very children grow up to be adults on walfare.

Procration limitations are a necessary element of a fuctional society. Our population is growing at an unnatural pace. With modern medicine and technology saving lives, prolonging life and even creating life, the human population is demoniating the world. We destroy EVERYTHING to build, build, build just to accomindate more people. When there is no clean air, no clean water and anarchy prevails we as a population will wish we would have controlled our numbers.

Natural selection WILL prevail. It is just a matter of time.

  18. this was asked like a week ago. look it up.  and i am strongly against, unless for medical reasons that include the mothers health or severe defects in the fetus. other than that, adoption. i dont care if you were raped, drunk or whatever. there is always someone to give a baby a loving home. close your legs or take some kind of responsibility.  when i say close your legs i do not mean this towards rape victims.  rape is a HORRIBLE thing and it shouldnt have to happen to anyone.

  19. I think it is the woman and her partners choice. But if there are people out there using it as birth control as some answers indicate, then they need to be educated. Using abortion as birth control is very wrong and I can't believe people are doing it!!

    mum of an ivf babe

  20. against. we shouldn't have the right to kill a child. how would you like it if your mother killed you before you had the chance to live. if people are dumb enough to have s*x without the intention of having a baby or aren't prepared to have one then they have to take responsibility for their actions.

  21. We all begin as "fetuses."  Obviously I didn't develop into a horse or a fish....

    Abortion KILLS human babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Adoption people, hello???

  22. I am pro-choice, but do not believe abortion should be used as a casual method of birth control. I think it should be a solution for extreme circumstances, such as rape, not because some 14-year old girl thought a night of drunken s*x would be a blast.

  23. Well I don't think it is murder. I don't think you should use it as birth control but there are some cases..I will not go into them but abortion is an option and up to the woman...It is sad to tell a woman who just got raped that it is going to be murder if you have an abortion..

  24. here is MY opinion. i am against it, you can go for adoption. the baby's heart is beating at 7 weeks so to me, that is a sign of life. and late term abortion , where they induce pre term labor is so sick i would probably deck someone if they did that. but then again i do see the side of a woman who has been raped and got pregnant. i would not judge that decision because i have never been in her shoes and cant even imagine what its like. but to a girl who just cant get with protection, and looking for a quick fix i think she should be unselfish for once and think about a life that has begun inside of her. that's my opinion i don't really care what others think.

  25. I'm for a woman's right to choose. I personally could never do it which is why I've always been responsible with birth control. Unfortunately sometimes it's the only choice and we need this as an available option for women.

  26. I happily and strongly opt for life . who am i to judge or take a human being life ?

I am a mother and will do anything for my kids .i mean anything

       ABORTION IS MURDER.

  27. FOR the right to privacy and individual choice.

Against abortion for myself, totally for abortion for all 14 year olds.

  28. Strongly against it. In my opinion it is murder plain and simple. If she can't handle a baby then close her legs or use protection.

  29. I am for the right to choose whether or not she should get one.  However, I am against getting an abortion for the wrong reasons.

So many people use abortion as an alternative to birth control.  It's so wrong, and I consider it to be an abuse of the rights a woman has.
