3x - 4y = 8

2. Write an equation in slope-intercept form of the lined through (4,5) with slope of 1/2.

Okay so, for the first problem, you can solve for y.

3x - 4y = 8

subtract 3x from both sides

-4y = -3x + 8

divide by -4

y = (3/4)x - 2

and from there you can look at the equation and see how it correlates with the form y = mx + b

where m is the slope.  So the slope is 3/4 and the y intercept is 0,-2

and to get the x intercept you can plug in 0 for y in the original equation

3x - 4y = 8

3x - 4(0) = 8

3x = 8

x is 8/3 so the x intercept is 8/3, 0

And for the second problem, one could write

y = (1/2)x

and to get it to go through (4,5) you can plug those in for x and y to find b in the equation

5 = (1/2)(4) + b

5 = 2 + b

3 = b

So the equation is

y = (1/2)x + 3

ok first thing you need to know is what slope-intercept form is....

slope-int. form is y=mx+b where m is equal to the slope and b (a constant) is equal to your y intercept

so to find the slope of the first question you need to put the equation in slope intercept form....so you need to get y alone at that point the coefficient of x will be your slope and the constant will be your y-intercept

to find your x-intercept you set the value of the y term equal to zero and solve

so for the second problem (the equation of a line passing through (4,5) with a slope of 1/2) will be 5 = 1/2(4) + 3
