I am planning on joining our cross country team for my highschool. Im a frosh. This is my first year doing cross country if I join the team. My experience in running is track. I did not run much during the summer, maybe once a week, so im not in the best of shape. But im kinda worried about doing xc because I may not keep up with the other people and I may be left behind. Im pretty athletic btw. My mile run is 6min and 45sec if that matters but I think my mile doesnt matter because you can run it. I got another question to ask. Will doing cross country make me lose weight? Because I dont want to lose weight I want to gain weight. I know that we burn alot of calories when we run because we run alot during practices. But If I eat like michael phelp 12000 calories per day will get the calories back. Please anwer both of my questions. Any help will be appreciated!!

  1. i highly recommend joining!!!!!!!!!! cross country is a very bonding sport and my personal favorite. i run all the time and love running for my school. i'm a top runner but one of my best friends who is on the team is our last runner. she is treated with the same respect and she loves it just as much. it's great all around. everyone on the team will get along and you will make a whole lot of new friends. all you have to do is try your best.

your mile time is fantastic. especially with practices coming you will get in even better shape. you will probably lose weight but depending on your current weight you may actually gain weight. if you gain muscle and lose fat you will be heavier because muscle weights more than fat. yes you can get the calories back by eating more. just keep eating healthy and you'll do great.

definitely join xc. and just remember, you are closer to your goal with every step you take.

hope i helped and good luck!!

  2. Don't worry! I say go out for xc. I do it and love it! When I started i wasnt that good either, the warmup jog winded me. But as practice goes on you get better. And it feels so good after running! If you eat a lot and work out I think you should be fine. My advice for you is get a good protein drink (you can find one at GNC) After you workout drink a glass of it and that will build lean muscle if you are a girl. Or it will make you bulk up if you are a boy. If you are running in the morning eat a fiber bar and drink a glass of water before you run. Dont eat anything too heavy, that will give you really bad side cramps and if you are dehydrated your run will just turn worse and worse.  Don't worry if you have a bad run, chances are the next time you run it will be a better run. Also, when you are running and feel like you can't go any farther, just tell yourself to get to that tree, then the pole, that sort of thing. If you push yourself at the end and really kick it, youll se awesome results. I hope you go out for xc. Its awesome!

    Good Luck!

  3. With that 645 mile u should be alright, thats maybe a 7 minute pace over 3 miles, id call that a little below average but with practice youll be way better. You should not lose weight unless your hitting like 50 miles and week and barely eating, just keep your normal diet and you should be fine. Hope you have fun with cross country, oh and you can go to runnersworld.com and check out their smart coach feature for an online running plan.
