For people who have lived in/ visited Maine?

I'm going to be moving in a couple years and I'm trying to think of where I'm going to go. I'd love to live by the ocean but at the same time would like to live in a place with scenic land and mountains. I know Maine has these characteristics and it's close to my home state.

Do you like living in Maine? What city is the best to be near the water (even one of the larger lakes)? I'm a teacher so I can work basically anywhere there are schools. I'd rather live in a smaller town/city, with family values. I don't have children yet but will one day...

Any other tips/advice are appreciated. Thanks!

peaks island maine is beautiful and in my opinion cant be beat.

My daughter goes to U Maine  Orono, I have to say I love Maine. Its the way my town used to be, folks know each other. There isn't lots of money but the life style is easier to deal with and not so materialistic. By the way they don't really trust folks from away ( which you are from unless you were born there).
