  1. Everyone learns at their own pace.  Some people feel anxious as the board starts to pick up speed because you feel that you don't have control.  In your lesson they should have taught you to sideslip: to go down the hill very slowly on one edge of the board.  If they didn't do this then it wasn't a good lesson.  If that is the case, then find another place to learn!  Sideslipping is how we stop on the snowboard.  It helps to build good balance and control.  I find students feel more comfortable on the board when they know that they can stop at any time.

First time on a snowboard is very challenging.  It is common to drop to your knees and backside allot - so yes the soreness is normal.  Don't give up too soon.  Once you find your balance sidelining on both edges, you will start to be more confident and then you will be ready to learn how to turn.

  2. Just be determined to learn and within 3 to 4 days of riding you will be making basic turns and starting to have fun - don't give up now, you have already done the hardest part.

    Good Luck

  3. It is ok.  We all have fears sometimes but in diffrent areas.  And yes it is normal to hurt when you fall down.  Dont compare your self to other people.
