im a newbie, and i dont want shortcuts. im studying theory and im doing ok with it. problem is everyone insists that i learn songs and more songs , that actually are only teaching me some finger dexterity.but nothing else.

i want to learn how to play wiht others and improvise, some pople have told me that i need to learn the scales.. i can play the minors and the majors, but there are like 99 more..wich ones do i have pick?

no matter how long it takes me..what do i have to do to acomplish my goal?

  1. Well in order to improvise you just basically need to learn scales....whichever ones you are interested in. For instance, there is a blues scale...if you're particularly interested in blues  then learn that scale. And the same for other types of music. Just learn whichever ones correspond with the kind of music that you want to play. :)
