  1. Almost all music now a days doesn't come by CD (some do still come to the station as a cd in a package like what was described...)

Most of the stations run mp3 off of hard drive and the songs are either sent to the station or the station downloads the music from a site for airplay.

I do know most music info you ask about is not formatted for the DJ anymore as it's for the music director (as most stuff is automated and the Dj is announcing cuts only..music is already picked out sometimes days in advance).

Usually info about length of song, intro time (amount of time before actual singing begins) outro time (amount of time the song continues after singing ends) , and beats per minute so the songs can be matched up better and doesn't sound like a train wrench going from a hard song to a soft song.. in that it's a gentle progression.

  2. if it's a single release...it is clearly printed with the words 'promotional copy-not for resale' on the disc itself...sometimes these discs will have al etter instructing people not to play the song on-air until such and such date (the official 'street date' of release)...

if it's actually an album...the packaging is standard, but there will be a hole punched in the lower corner of the insert to denote that it is a promo copy...

all cds are delivered to and opened by either the music director or the program director, the announcers themselves don't actually get the cds until the PD decides if the songs are going to be added to the station's playlist...
