So, I've read some of Pratchett. And I absolutely love it. So I'm wondering if there are particular storylines that you recomment, like Rincewind, The Witches, The Wizards, The City Watch, etc.

In other news, I sort of adore Lord Vetinari.

Oh! One last thing, is there a particular reading order, I've been trying to read them somewhat in the order that they were published, but I've noticed that a lot of them could be stand alone novels.

  1. You can find a list of the publication order and the main characters in the story (Death, City Watch, Wizards, etc...) here :

You don't have to read them in any particular order, but if you want to follow one story arc, say Carrot and Angua/City Watch, then you might want to read those books in their published order. In general, although characters may continue, most of the books can be considered stand-alone books. Anything that has previously happened (in another book) is usually fairly well explained and you probably won't get lost.

I am currently listening to the audio book versions, in published order, and I am up to book 13 - Small Gods. These are great, also, so if you get a chance to listen to one, you won't be disappointed. They are wonderfully narrated and bring a whole different feel to the books than just reading them.

I generally enjoy the City Watch Death stories, and am starting to like the Lancre Witches (Witches Abroad was great). But I tend to enjoy the background characters better than some of the main characters. The Luggage is one of my favorites (but Rincewind usually bugs me) and I like Cohen the Barbarian, particularly in Interesting Times.

Some of my favorite books in the series (so far) have been Monstrous Regiment, Interesting Times, Moving Pictures, Witches Abroad and Night Watch.

I hope this helps answer your question.

  2. my faves are the ones with death, id have to say the death trilogy

& lords and ladies, the witches are great maskerade as well.

i could list all of the books, something for everyone

not realy a reading order thouh its listed in front of the books, leap in where ever

  3. City Watch, seriously. Guards Guards was my favorite out of all his books. The Watch has a few books that have to be read in order, (Guards Guards, Men at Arms, Thud, Jingo, Night Watch, I think), but most of them can be stand alones. The Witches arc came a close second especially, for some reason, the ones directed more towards YA. His prose is more brushed up there.

I didn't like Rincewind much except for the last few books in that arc. It was his earlier work, so it's understandable.

    Vetinari is awesome.
