On the back, under stats, does it say "no NHL experience" or "1 NHL season"?

  1. It can be either.  Top prospects often get featured billing in sets before they've played a single game.  Lower draft picks may not have a card for several years, and those first cards will usually show any NHL experience they've had.

  2. I used to collect cards in the 80's and 90's. You just need to look at the rules to qualify for the calder...at that time a player was still a rookie if they played fewer than 25 games with their NHL club the previous year or 26 the previous two years as well as being under 26 by mid-september I think. That was a adjustment to the rule because Makarov won the Calder at age 31. Not sure if it is still done like that.

  3. When your dealing with hockey cards, newer ones will not show NHL stats unless it plain says on the card Rookie Card.

When it comes to cards, a player is a rookie even if he's only played a preseason game, therefore he now has a rookie card. so usually it will have no NHL experience, or give their junior stats.

now on older cards it can be a little different.

i know Roenick's card wasn't made until his third year in the league.
