  1. SIZZIX hands down. Get the Sizzix Big Shot or Big Kick (really the same machine) It doesn't need batteries or electricity.  You need to build up a collection of dies to use. You can use a coupon on them at JoAnn fabrics and Micheal's. There is a sale on a Big Shot package on the Sizzix web site.

It will cut ALL Cutterbee, Quikkuts, Sizzix dies. Really any die on the market it can cut. It can cut basal wood, foil, any weight paper, vellum, cork, even fabric.

A Cricut runs a lot more money. There are two versions out now. The original only cuts paper, and not heavy weight paper. The new version (@$300.00) has a much longer cutting surface, can cut more materials. You must buy their cartridges for it. Nothing else works in it. You program in your word and the machine cuts it out. It must be plugged in. The Critcut has a longer learning period to it. Make sure you get it out and play with it till you have it down when you first get it. It can be hard to pull the paper from the cutting pad. Also have a place where it can stay and be plugged in to use conveniently.  Some Cord Camera stores have classes in both.

My sister in law has both. She uses her Sizzix 95% of the time.

There are computerized die cut machine  that contect to your computer and lets you use all fonts and scan it designs. They run even more than the cricut.

I find the Sizzix machine much more conventient to use and faster to use. It is easier to build up a collection one die at a time with a budget. I can run my paper through a Zyron machine that puts adheavise on the back and the Sizzix machine will cut it with no problems. Very handy.

  2. I would think the Cricut is better, but it's quite a bit more expensive.  If you can afford it, I would suggest you get that.  It's way more versatile because you can adjust the size of what you are cutting out and it doesn't waste as much paper.

  3. I have only used the cricut and I like it, but the blades wear out fast and so does the cutting mat.  So be sure to buy extras of those if you go with the cricut.

  4. I have both... I personally like the cricut better.

However with the sizzix you can cut other material besides paper, like foam, cloth, plastic.

Why i like the cricut: I purchase the computer program for the cricut and now i can change, warp, enlarge/strink all my shapes. I love the fonts how the come together like script and how you can add the inks to draw the cut out. Even with out the program you can make the shapes larger with the cricut. With the sizzix  you can not.

also like the cricute because i can cut images that are 12  x 24 with the sizzix i think the biggest die i have is 2x3. I think the sizzix is more of a childs toy reather that cricut that i use for my business
