  1. a)    You should provide gloves for those children who are without them.  It is not fair for them to miss out on the play outside because their parents are not remembering the gloves.  Perhaps they are families who cannot afford gloves, or only can afford one pair (and they don't want them to get lost at school).  Asking for them to pay for gloves to keep at the center is not appropriate, nor is keeping the children inside because they are lacking gloves.  And, really- are you going to ask the child to leave the center because they don't have gloves??  I would hope not!  As a center, your best interest is in the children... so keep some extra gloves on hand (write the center name on them) and let the kids out to play!  Some circumstances are beyond your control, and the children should not be punished for situations beyond their control.

  2. I would say none of the above, or a mixture of the above, depending on how you look at it. I would find out why these children aren't bringing gloves to school, either by talking to the children themselves, or to the parents. Then explain to the parents that if acquiring gloves is a problem for them (???), then you can provide some. Perhaps it would be a good idea to state that if a similar situation is likely to occur in the future then they should let you know instead of just sending their kids in without the things they require.

    Hope this helps

  3. Answer A.  It is  not fair to penalize the children, especially if the parents do not have the money for gloves.  If the center has extra gloves, I'd say let them wear those when they go out to play, but do not allow them to take them home.  That way there is always gloves at the Preschool for the children to wear.

  4. D is the best. It will make them want to bring the gloves in and bringing gloves for the ones who haven't brought then in will make the ones who did mad because they spent the money for nothing. B also sounds reasonable if you can get in contact with the parents yourself and then if they don't have time you could do it for them.

  5. Answer D.  Cutting off the kids from playing, will make them complain to parents, and the squeaky wheel (kid) get the grease.

  6. From working at a Title I school, I always end up buying things for the kids.  I even ended up buying a set of pajamas for a brother and sister in order for them to participate in a class activity.  I called the parents first.  I would call each parent and ask them if the kids have gloves in the first place.  If not, then I would go buy some.

  7. Provide extra gloves but don't tell the parents. Meanwhile, draft a letter to be signed this time by the principal.

    Can't believe these parents!!!

  8. I would say the best thing for you to do is just have extra gloves or mittens handy for your students. Especially right now you could go to any Dollar General and they are on sale for like 70% off. That way you can have some now and even stock up for next year.

  9. a. if you don't want to draw attention to these children or make the children feel uncomfortable.
