In coins, however some say in dollars.  You just have to look at each one.  If there is no dollar sign, it is in coins.

That's 5000 cents on a penny machine

$5000 on a dollar machine

and so on.

Or it might be a Progressive Jackpot prize which is always listed as dollars and cents.
