We've switched out the alternator and charged up the battery again and believe it may be a sensor? How could I go about fixing this and how much does this cost approximately? The car is a 1995 Fort Contour.

  1. Is the problem that the battery keeps running down? I cant really tell from your question but that's kinda what I get. If that's the case you have a draw some where. You can isolate the draw by disconnecting the negative battery cable and hooking a test light up in series (the test light probe on the battery post the clip on the cable). Now start disconnecting fuses until the light goes out. Then you have isolated the circuit with the draw. You know that the radio and cigar lighter are already hot so disconnect them right away. Your looking for a draw in a circuit like the dash lights or any circuit that should not be hot while the car is not running. After that you can start looking in the specific circuit that has a draw and start at one end and keep cutting it in half until you find the problem.

  2. Get your alternator tested for free somewhere, like at Pep Boys. If it is putting out the correct amount of current and voltage charge, then you can eliminate that from your list.
