I mean, so that you missed the first few weeks of school? I would like to hear any experiences you have.

  1. I did'nt have a baby but I had over 50 fibroids removed about two weeks before school began. I missed the first grading period! I was in pain, bored and I actually missed my students! I was glad to get back to work but it was difficult.

  2. I had a baby on the first day of school in 1997.

I had a sub for 12 weeks.  She was a young teacher who did not find a full-time position for that year.  We talked about general units to cover.  She did them as she wanted to.  I gave advice.

She had a terrible time with management, so I had a rough time coming back, but once they figured out I wouldn't brook  any (much) nonsense, they settled down and the year was OK.

  3. School here in Japan begins in April, and I had my baby on the 22nd just this year. I'm an assistant teacher so there is no substitute teacher taking over my job at school. I will go back to work on June 17.

I can honestly say that even though I'm so busy with, and adore, my daughter; I really do miss being at work. I live in the area of my school and the students often bump into me and tell me how much they miss me being there. Often my co-workers will call me to check their English for tests and assignments that I would normally proof before being given to the students. It's difficult to do this all over the phone. I am sure that I am going to have a ton of stuff to do when I return.
