  1. just keep going

dont rub out your mistakes either this is how you learn

dont crumple them up either therfor you can watch what needs changing and how your progressing

    make a sketch book

    the start wont be great

but the last page will be perfect

i cant actually draw 'perfect' as i have my own flare

maybe you have a particular style in which you draw and you havnt found it

try experimenting with diffrent lines and media

  2. What type of medium are you working with? I would like to advise you to try sketching in charcoal and work with shading by observation.  darkening and blending with this medium is easy and it will help you in other areas.Keep sketching,  Hope this has been helpful.

  3. there's no such thing as 'perfection' but to become great it takes a h**l of a lot of practice, good observational skill, a lot of perseverance etc.

just sketch as often as you can and how about joining a drawing class to help further your skills?

  4. Crosshatching is more efficient, whereas excessive shading with fingers or paper stubs is more difficult and therefore has a tendency to look more amateur... at least in my opinion anyway. I would suggest buying white conte crayons and charcoal. Choose a colored sheet of paper (not black or white, not too dark or too light) and start by lightly making an outline of the basic  external shape, then make it slightly more detailed (but still basic) with very little pressure. Next find the darkest areas and color it a dark black, and put white on the lightest areas. Further add dimension by cross hatching, but the medium toned paper should create the middle tone of the work, without having to cross hatch/ shade at all. Hopefully, this makes sense for you, as its kind of hard for me to describe. For a thorough description of crosshatching go to http://www.portrait-artist.org/basics/sh...
